WICHITA, Kansas (KAKE) – A Wichita family desperately wants answers after the murder of a teenage boy goes unsolved. It happened last month and now, for the first time, we have video of the suspect.

A makeshift memorial marks the spot where 18-year-old Amyion Mcdowel-Mitchell was shot last month in southeast Wichita. It happened on September 23 around 11 p.m. in the 5000 block of East Osie.

Police say he was outside in the yard when he and two other people attending a birthday party started arguing. His aunt, who does not want to be filmed, says that night she heard a gunshot and found her nephew lying on the ground.

This single shot mortally wounded McDowel-Mitchell.

Now police are releasing a short security video clip showing the shooter fleeing the scene.

“It’s important to get a killer off the streets and put them behind bars where they belong,” said Wichita Police Officer Trevor Macy. loved one.”

His obituary states that McDowel-Mitchell was the eldest of four children and although he was built as a linebacker, he loved music. He was in the marching band at East High.

Off camera, her aunt says her life was too short and someone knows who did it. She and her family want justice.

The police too. They hope someone recognizes the killer.

“Detectives are still following leads in this case,” Macy said. “They just need this bit of information to help solve this problem.”

The suspect is described as a skinny black man, in his 30s or 40s, 5’8-5’10 inches tall, with a patchy beard.
