Wichita Police are looking for a man who robbed a local gas station owner with a knife point in the middle of the day.

It happened on September 6th at T&T Discount Cigarettes and Gas near Douglas and West. Security video shows a man casually walks into the store, then shoots a knife at the owner.

Police say that’s when the owner grabbed a crowbar and chased the thief outside, but not before the suspect stole cigarettes. Loyal customer Trevor Hommertzheim says he can’t believe this has happened to such a nice guy.

“He’s been good to me, really cool,” Hommertzheim said. “I do not understand.”

The owner doesn’t want to be questioned, but tells police he hopes the suspected thief will be arrested.

“You can see guys’ faces pretty well,” said Wichita Police Officer Trevor Macy. “It shows the encounter and how aggressive this guy was and how violent his actions were.”

Macy says the owner of the gas station doesn’t recognize the thief, but he hopes someone else does because the crime was so violent.

“It’s pretty cheeky to rob someone with a knife at all times, but when you do it at 1:30 p.m. on a main road, it’s cheeky enough for this guy to do that,” he said. Macy said.

Investigators believe the suspect is in his late teens and wears glasses. If you have any information about this case, the police ask you to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
