Police have now weighed in on the issue surrounding the authenticity of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’s university degree. In a statement shared on social media, police spokesman Bruno Shioso said the National Police Service had launched criminal investigations to establish whether Sakaja and Machakos County Governor hopeful Wavinya Ndeti , had committed a criminal offence.
“The NPS has opened criminal investigations into the authenticity of certificates submitted for clearance to the IEBC by two political aspirants, namely Hon. Johnson Sakaja and Hon. Wavinya Ndeti, both aspiring governors of the counties Nairobi and Machakos respectively, and determine whether an offense has been committed.” reads the statement.
Sakaja hit the headlines after doubts were cast over the authenticity of his graduation from Team University in Uganda.

The senator is set to run for the Commission on University Education pending the decision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
In the statement, the NPS also wants the Director of Criminal Investigations to investigate the authenticity of all documents presented to the IEBC by the political aspirants.
“As a result, the NPS Inspector General has directed the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct expeditious investigations into the genuineness and authenticity of all certificates, testimonies and respective documents presented to the IEBC for clearance by the two aforementioned aspirants to the logical conclusion.
